Yet another security release for [tag]WordPress[/tag]. The new version includes about 30 bug fixes, mostly minor things around encoding, XML-RPC, the object cache, and HTML code. Due to the possible security issue, all WordPress users are urged to upgrade to the newest version.
This time around upgrading is a bit easier. Especially, if you are going from WordPress 2.1 to WordPress 2.1.1.
Here’s how to do it quickly:
1.) Make sure that you loggged in to your WordPress Admin Panel.
2.) Download and extract version 2.1.1
3.) Open your FTP client (preferrably Filezilla).
4.) Go to the folder named ‘WordPress’ on the FTP client local site pane.
5.) Go to your server-based WordPress installation.
6.) Upload and overwrite the following file: xmlrpc.php
7.) Delete the wp-includes folder.
8.) Upload the new wp-includes folder and CHMOD it to 755
9.) Open the wp-admin folder on both the local site and server site.
10.) Upload and overwrite the following files:
- wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
- wp-admin/admin-functions.php
- wp-admin/custom-header.php
- wp-admin/options-general.php
- wp-admin/edit.php
- wp-admin/index-extra.php
- wp-admin/options-reading.php
11.) Using your browser go to your admin panel (don’t panic when you see the warning).
12.) Follow the database upgrading instructions.
13.) You are done!
